This event highlights select challenges and opportunities generated by the current, emerging risk environment. A primary goal of this conference is to offer participants, both students and business professionals alike, exposure to a series of topics, including an exploration of the framework where multi-faceted risk conditions impact the business environment generally and various market segments specifically.

Abstract: Global acceptance and participation in social media is nothing short of a phenomenon. There are 750 million active Facebook users, 250 million of which access the application by mobile phone. Linked In's recent IPO was valued at 7.84 billion. Of the 133,000,000 blogs indexed by Technorati, 49% are generated from the USA. Adoption of mobile smart phones and tablets has broken all previous records for consumer purchases of electronic devices. The walls are coming down, and corporations and governments find themselves living in glass houses not of their own making (WikiLeaks, the Arab Spring, Nestle). Whether it's a single blogger literally capable of creating a worldwide PR crisis; a social media influencer's rave creating a sudden demand for goods; or a disgruntled employee tweeting trade secrets -- business, civic and government entities ignore social media at their peril.
Session is an exploration of the risks and opportunities inherent in a company's participation in social media, why having a social media policy is essential, and how social media is shaping marketing, PR, R&D, product launches and the nature of corporate communications.

Abstract: In these changing global markets, academia has also had to adapt, and in some cases, re-invent itself. Current trends in the growth of e-learning and global "off-site" campuses demonstrate that schools and universities are responding to the leaps in technological markets and social and business globalization. A new kind of "grand tour" is emerging, pushed by the requirements for student cross-cultural exposure, and solidly branded "western" schools opening shop outside of their national borders, to respond to the growing demands of emergent markets. On the other side of the spectrum, e-learning opportunities coupled with online degree programs, are meeting the needs of the traditional "night class" student of old and offering opportunities for affordable and flexible education for others. The schoolhouse is changing yet again. This trend begs various questions. What curriculum approaches will best bridge knowledge with application for burgeoning technologies societies? What are the expectations for measuring learning outcomes? How do universities assess the impact of technology on the learning environments, both good and bad? How do schools prepare students for this new entrepreneurial environment?
